Newspapers

One thing I know I got from my dad, the love of newspapers. Growing up, there was always two newspapers to read every day. In the morning it was the Boston Record-American. It was kind of like a tabloid but it was a great source for news and sporting news. The back page always had the latest on the Red Sox and all of the other Boston teams. The news stories followed politics closely. I didn't always agree with their views but is was interesting to read. In the evening we always got the Springfield Daily News. It was a great source for local news. I would also always read the comics in both papers.

Today, I still read the paper every day and I still follow the comics. I know I can get all of the news online now but there's something about holding the paper in your hand and reading it from the first page to the last.
My brother and sister are also loyal newspaper readers, I fell sad when newspapers go out out of business. I hope there's at least one I can always read.

Susan's dad

We just got back from Florida but it wasn't really a vacation. Susan's dad died about a month ago and we went down to clean out his house so it can be sold. It opened my eyes on how much "stuff" can accumulate. We shredded over 4 large trash bags of documents he had saved and threw away another 3 bags full of paper that did not have to be shredded. His closet had many shirts that were never worn which we gave to a local church for their thrift store. We also gave most of the furniture to the church. We did manage to go to the beach one day but most of the week was work. It was very emotional when we closed the door on his empty house for the last time. He may have died 3 weeks ago but closing that door was like closing the door of his life. I only knew Paul for a few years but realized what a good man he was. He will be missed by many. Rest in peace Paul.

New blog

02/06 2012 - First post of a brand new blog. It's probably going to be boring for most people but I wanted a place to write down my thoughts and dreams and maybe add some pictures now and then. Today is Feb 6, 2012. Not much happened today. I worked my usual hour at work which were mostly uneventful. The weather is very warm for February and still no snow on the ground. Could this be the year without a winter? After everything that happened last year, we deserve a break. Stay tuned for more exciting posts!
